Non-contact infrared thermal imagers for mass fever screening--state of the art or myth?
نویسندگان
چکیده
During the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak, the installation of non-contact infrared (IR) thermal image sensors (NCIRTIS) at national entry and exit points aimed to stop people with acute, febrile respiratory illnesses leaving and entering SARS-affected regions (Fig). This was done in line with WHO recommendations but the exact method of fever detection for exit and entry screening was not specified. This experience offers valuable information concerning the value of using the same detection methods for the impending avian influenza pandemic. Different types of IR sensors were employed but they all work under the same physical principles and are therefore prone to the same intrinsic errors.

Non-contact infrared thermal imagers may still be useful for mass fever screening.
To the Editor—We have some observations on the commentary by Wong and Wong on non-contact infrared thermal image sensors (NCIRTIS) for mass fever screening. Based on their literature review, the authors suggested that authorities should not rely on the use of NCIRTIS in mass fever screening. However, the authors overlooked a few recent studies, which may cast doubt on their conclusion. They poi...
متن کاملEvaluation of Thermal Imaging in the Diagnosis and Classification of Varicocele
Introduction: A varicocele is the abnormal dilation and tortuosity of venous plexus above the testicles. The pattern of abnormal heat distribution in the scrotum can be detected through thermal imaging, which is a distant, non-contact, and non-invasive method. The aim of the present study is to detect and grade varicocele. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 50 patients with high...

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and one of the leading of death among them. The high and increasing incidence of the disease and its difficult treatment specifically in advanced stages, imposes hard situations for different countries’ health systems. Body temperature is a natural criteria for the diagnosis of diseases. In recent decades extensive research has been conducted to ...
متن کاملModeling of High Temperature GaN Quantum Dot Infrared Photodetectors
In this paper, we present calculations for different parameters of quantum dot infrared photodetectors. We considered a structure which includes quantum dots with large conduction-band-offset materials (GaN/AlGaN). Single band effective mass approximation has been applied in order to calculate the electronic structure. Throughout the modeling, we tried to consider the limiting factors which dec...
متن کاملA review of thermography as promising non-invasive detection modality for breast tumor
From the last 1.5 decades of complying with the strict standardized thermogram interpretation protocols by proper infrared trained personnel as documented in literature, breast thermography has achieved an average sensitivity and specificity of 90%. An abnormal thermogram is reported as the significant biological risk marker for the existence of or continues development of breast tumor. This re...
